In 2016, MAKRO recognized the need for a mobile app to address their marketing challenges. They wanted to generate greater brand loyalty by initiating higher customer engagement which would in-turn drive increased sales. Furthermore, MAKRO lacked a digital product to effectively engage clients with new services and offers, putting them at a disadvantage compared to other competitors who were capitalising on growing user trends through mobile apps.

Android & iOS mobile apps to replace physical membership cards to gain entry into the stores.
To stay competitive, MAKRO decided to partner with itCraft to create a custom mobile app for their loyalty program. This app aimed to enhance customer engagement, build brand loyalty, and provide a convenient platform for personalised promotions, rewards, and exclusive offers. By embracing mobile technology and leveraging itCraft’s expertise, MAKRO sought to improve customer retention, increase brand visibility, and ultimately strengthen their market position.
Finding the best option for integrating external services took some time, but we know we have picked the optimal solutions.
Crafting native iOS and Android apps was rather easy, compared to the need of ensuring that external services will allow easy and convenient product and order management and reduce the development effort on the backend side. And, of course, enable secure and fast payments. After meticulous research, we chose Shopify and Stripe. The system was deployed on the Amazon cloud infrastructure and utilizes AWS dedicated services wherever possible (ex. a managed PostgreSQL database service). All this seasoned with intuitive and compelling UI design.
itCraft developed a native mobile app that complemented their physical loyalty cards with a digital version, addressing the need for a modernised customer experience and avoid people forgetting their cards which are required for entry into the stores.
The app allowed customers to conveniently access their cards on their mobile devices and access targeted offers and discounts.
Overall, the mobile app developed by itCraft for MAKRO has not only achieved significant user engagement but also delivered cost savings, garnered industry recognition, and demonstrated a strong commitment to iterative enhancements in alignment with business goals.
