Tinder-like app in Dubai? Yes. In Arabic? Yes. We went far beyond the expectations.
Culture makes a difference. Really. We are used to being exposed to the digital world, even though we consider privacy as something serious. Who does not know what Tinder is? Online dating seems like something ordinary in Europe or in the USA. But there are parts of the world where safety and discretion are viewed from a different perspective. And this digital product focuses on these factors heavily. The app enables chat, or video calls without sharing the mobile number.

The client came to us with a concrete plan – to create a Tinder-like app that would be suitable for their cultural environment. The main focus was placed on women’s privacy and finding a partner for life. Well, Dubai is the synonym of wealthy life, so it was obvious that the app had to be designed for iOS systems. Of course, Android still holds the huge part of the market. Therefore, we decided we needed to craft an app that works like a native application for booth platforms. Flutter was the best choice to achieve that.

We did an impressive job – in terms of matching the cultural conditions with something we consider as ordinary.
As always, we’ve started our collaboration with two days of UX/UI workshops where we established user stories, discussed work organization and strategized the production process. Our suggestion to go with Flutter for app development was accepted, which was great because our cross-platform team could build the solution for both systems simultaneously. We’ve prepared clickable mockups to present the initial design to the client. The app was supposed to be easy-to-use, visually appealing and modern. And it was. We did it with the Flutter framework.
Challenges we overcome
To offer female app users confidentiality, we had to prepare two different user flows for women and men. That also required appropriate privacy and security features.
The app was designed for serious and eligible people. It was also focused on providing a safe and discrete environment for the ladies. Even though it is similar to Tinder – it helps connect people, who are looking for their perfect match – we had to slightly change the rules, due to cultural differences. The app allows women to browse potential life partner candidates and contact them using text or video. Gentlemen can view only the profiles of ladies, who ‘swiped them right’. And this app was a match with our client’s needs and requirements. Aside from apps, we have also created a promotional website for the Sultana project.

Finding a prince in the digital world is not as sophisticated as in the fairy tales now. Honestly, ladies can browse through the list of gentlemen and decide which one should be considered as a match. It’s a unique project. We were thrilled when an innovative startup from Dubai that wants to deliver modern solutions to people from their cultural region contacted us. It was an opportunity to craft something totally new – in terms of learning a few things about a different culture and merging it with our vast experience. We can proudly say that we cracked the code and did a cracking job with this one.
